How close a match do HDDs have to be for RAID ?

I have 2x Maxtor DM10 250gb SATA1 drives, and am looking to add a 3rd for raid, no mine has 6L250S0 as the model no, looking around, there are some with the same model and a variation on the same serial, just different letters. Are they close enough a match ? Or do i need exact model *** ?

Basically, would 3 x Diamondmax 10 SATA1 250gb drives be ok, despite slight model no variances ?

Ideally you want matching drives but it's not essential. Try and get as close a match as possible and you'll be fine.
