HI i want to set 8 ssd 2.5" drives up in raid 0 but is there anyway i can mirror them to a 2tb drive incase one dies so i don't loose the whole array?
any ideas? But i want the speed of the raid 0 setup, but just some backup of the data
thanks

What? No, you don't want to do that. Not even a little bit. In fact none of that makes any sense whatsoever.

8 ssds will be no quicker than 4 and barely quicker than 3. An 8 disk raid 0 is retarded because the odds of it failing are so high.

If you raid 1 the ssds to a hard drive your system will run at the speed of the hard drive instead of the ssds. This would be really daft.

You want three ssds in raid 0 and a nightly backup to a normal hard drive, combined with making an image of the drives after you first install everything.

I hope you have a good reason for asking such a question, it looks like a wind up.

nope, i want raid array of ssds but just have the data from them on another drive (as i accept the chance of a drive failing) and then could restore the data

If you make a raid 0 of ssds. And mirror it to a hard drive. It will run at the speed of the hard drive.

You do not want eight ssds in raid 0 as it will run at the same speed/little bit slower than four in raid 0. This may be avoidable with a good pci-e raid card, allowing you to use more than four. However at this point I mention that the storage will be so much quicker than the rest of the computer that it will still perform the same as three in raid 0.
