RAID problems

I've had this PC that has been setup with RAID 5. A few months ago, the array was degraded but the subsequent rebuild seemed to do the trick for a week or so, then the drive #1 showed as failed. Again the RAID was degraded.

I replaced the failed drive with an identical HDD. Again, the array was rebuilt and all worked fine for awhile.

Over the weekend, the user appeared to have all sorts of strange problems. The display at the bottom went all wavy until the PC went dead. On reboot, the RAID showed drive #1 (the driver that is new) as failed.

Does this sound like a flaky RAID controller.. I'm thinking it might be best to revert back to a non-array setup.

What do you think?

Assuming that the replacement drives you installed were new then I would agree that something in either the controller or power to that 'slot' is amiss, although what would be hard to say without starting to swap out equipment and I guess from your post that 's not feasible?

Power!! - I never thought about that. I'll try a different connector as all three drives are running off the same lead.. Although, that shouldn't make any difference really.
