RAID Question

Hi all,

I currently have around 7-8 TB's of data across 4/5 drives in my PC. I'm thinking I really need to sort out a possible RAID5 array so if a drive goes down I don't lose everything on it.

My question is, can I setup a raid array with my current drives without losing the data on them? If not (which I think is going to be most likely), can I setup an array with 2 new drives, copy the data of an existing drive to the new RAID, then add the empty drive the the new array. And then do that for the rest of the old drives until I have one big RAID?

you'll need a minimum of 3 drives to make a RAID 5 array

when you create the array ... it will have to be formatted so you'll lose any data on those drives

your stuck really at the moment

personally I would seriously think about a microserver build with an array big enough to take all your data (allowing for redundancy)

sadly ..... with HDD pricing at the moment this is a high expense option
