Hi All,

With any luck my new system is arriving tomorrow. I've ordered a pair of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB's for it. Is it worth setting these up as a RAID 0 array for speed or just leave them as 2 seperate drives and keep windows/apps on one and everything else on the other. It's been 3 years since I built my last system and I'm a little behind the tech curve.

Thanks in advance.

These drives are going to be quick anyway so its upto you really. Personally I would favour two seperate disks as you have more storage space. Unless you are running a lot of disk intensive apps then raid probably isnt worth it.

According to CustomPC several months ago, you will not get much performance increase from Raid 0 and Raid 1 and you will risk losing data.

However, I suspect people is doing Raid 0,1,2,0+1,1+0 in this forum and they seem to be happy the performace. Maybe they could post some test result of their set up. Dig more you will see

Benchmarks and tests are all well and good but will you be using all that bandwidth?

If the rest of your new rig is top spec then a Mirrored Raid is probably a good option.

Thats a fair point. The system is mainly for running Flightsim and I'll probably treat myself to a modern FPS. I'm starting to think a RAID 0 set up may well be more trouble than it's worth.
