I'm bulding a PC for gaming and photo editing mainly and would like to know whether its worth setting up a RAID array or not. I've got two 250GB WD Caviar SATAII 16MB Cache drives and a Gigabyte DS3P board. I've also got a 160B WD Caviar ATA100 8MB Cache that I was going to use just for backups incase I went RAID0.

So, is there much benefit to be had as these drives are already pretty fast on their own?

The trend now is to use use Raid 0 for OS and apps while your important data would have to be stored in a separate drive.

Aye, its especially useful for laptops, due to thier low individual read/write speeds. My laptop has 2 drives raided with a 64k stripe I believe,a nd although the find time is 15ms, rather than the more usual 8-9ms, but the read speed is average 66MB/sec which is exceptional for a 5.4RPM HD system.
