is it possible (and if so why havnt they done it)

to have two phone lines, two broadband connections and one router which shares the data over both lines ?

kind of like Raid0 for harddrives but for internet connections ?

you don't even need a specific service, you can simply pick up an ADSL modem that supports load sharing.

Not the same thing as bonding as it appears as 2 seperate IP addresses so some services will not allow you to connect using both of them (Usenet for example). Bonded ADSL doesn't work correctly on rate adaptive lines (ADSL Max/2+). It works quite well on 2meg fixed lines. The ISp needs to support it too.

I'm pretty sure that bonding works fine with rate adaptive lines?

Load balancing and line bonding aren't the same thing, but yeah - load balancing can give you good results in certain circumstances.

I know, I didn't say it was, but in a lot of cases can give you the same result. The OP asked:

both load sharing across 2 lines, and a bonding/bonded service will do this. With loadsharing the broadband connections don't both have to be ADSL, i.e. you can load share across a cable line, and an ADSL line.
