Just put a new system together and i am trying to install Vista 64 HomePrem on 2 WD Caviar SE 80gb SATA2 drives in raid0.
It wouldn't work at all to start so i did a bios update to the latest they had on the ASUS site, bios 0504, relased on the 28/12/2007.
After the update it pottered along nicely into the install, booted got into vista after what seemed like forever when i started to install MOBO drivers in got the BSOD saying there was some sort of error with the driver iastorv.sys which i now know is the driver for intel raid configs.
After the bsod and reboot vista took its time to load and then told me that it had recovered from an error and it started to act normally untill the matrix storage taskbar icon popped up and told me that one of the drives in the array was failing.
I shutdown took apart the array and ran diagnostics on each of the two discs with no errors at all (as i expected), i then ran memtest to check the ram out just incase again with no errors.
then proceeded to install vista 64 on each disk alone, which worked without problems.
Rebuilt the array 3 times using differant configurations of the sata ports (the orginal working array was on ports 5+6) and it wouldn't even get past the 'expanding files' point of the install, i kept getting the same BSOD over and over again
I have tried adding the drivers from the mobo drivers CD during install to no avail, and can't find the right way to put the drivers onto a USB key to try it that way.
I have found a lot of threads online that have workarounds for gigabyte boards, or when you get into vista desktop but i can't even get it to install let alone get to desktop.
If worst comes to very very very worst i will just have to forget the raid for now and use just one of the discs but i really dont want it to come to that.
If anyone has any suggestions/solutions/help/large bottles of scotch it would make my year !
Anyone setup raid 0 on one of these boards that can make me a guide.
Mobo: ASUS P5k Premium/Wifi AP Black pearl. Bios 0504
HDD: 2x WD Caviar SE 7200rpm 8mb cache Sata2 80gb
CPU: Q6600 GO 2.4ghz
RAM: 4gb Corsair 800mhz
Sorry for the long post but it has been 13 hours of failing so far, Thanks
