In some cases the 4 drive RAID 0 array would be better, such as transfer speeds but most common applications and games should IMO run better with the single Raptor.

4 drives would also draw more power and produce more heat than a single Raptor; although not too sure about noise.

Also just in case you're not aware, with a RAID 0 array if any of the drives fail, you've most likely lost all the data on them. Obviously the greater number of drives in the RAID array, the greater the risk and I'd say with 4 drives that risk is fairly high.

The maxtors are crap tbh

Maxtor drives are rubish anyway

dont use maxtors they are crap

Maxtor HDDs do have some problems at this moment in time, mostly to do with poor reliability.....

i been thinking about setting up a 4 HDD raid 0

I would not recomment this, simply because of the real possibility of a problem arising with one of the HDDs, with the result that you loose EVERYTHING on the RAID0 volume....2 HDDs in RAID0 work well and will give you a decent performance increase IF the purpose you are using it for is either working with large files or unzipping large file...ie. video files, but other than that you will see no appreciable performance increase. Also, make sure you have decent backups of everythng you don't want to loose, especially if you use RADI0.

If your usage falls into either of the 2 scenarios above, then what you could do is RAID a couple of 36 GB or 74GB Raptors, if not, just get a single 74GB or 150GB Raptor....:)

i was only going to use it for gaming i got anouther comp for work and office with imp[ortant stuff on it :D so fail rate not muc of a problem, but i guess i go for a couple of raptor hdds but that gona push my budget a tiny lil bit :P

erm scince raptor one made by western digital, u think 4x this be okay?

and i really prefer to have 300gb atleast, cuase i dono how but some how i always manage to fill the whole hdd :P

btw i still not too sure on the raid concept, on windows when i have it set up do i see all 4 hdds as 1 c:/ or will i have 4 drives?

i trying to spend 120-130 ish inc vat and dilivery

If you want speed get a good raid controller and Raid10 them (it'll be faster and more redundant than raid0 but half the capacity), if you REALLY want speed and have deep pockets look into small form factor SAS drives or FC.
