Just a quicky really

Got a REVO64 card coming in the post, with an aim to add parity to my storage :)

I have got 2x 250gb drives atm, and am looking for a 3rd :)

Just wondered if RAID3 is secure as a backup really.

Read that that READ speeds are good, but WRITE speeds are poor ? That correct ? If so, ideal, as its gonna be read off mainly ;)

yes write speeds are poor due to the necessity to update the parity data that is stored on one drive. raid 5 aims to speed that up by spreading the parity data over all drives. raid 3 reads are as quick as raid 0 though.

yes it will serve as a backup.

thanks daven

another question i have not found an answer too..

Video encoding is affected by hd speed... is it the speed of the source file, or the destination of the new file that is important ? or both ? if i had a RAID0 array (seperate to the above) would encoding a file on that, and saving to it, be beneficial?

thanks in advance :)
