Rain suits - any decent ones?

Any recommendations for a decent rain suit that doesn't end up with you just as wet from sweat as you would be from the rain?

After the faff of putting on my full textiles this morning (which are still warm as hell even with no thermal liners) I realised I need a rainsuit to go over my kevlar jeans and leather jacket for summer rain, and also to take with me when touring.

Are they all 'boil in the bag' type things in hot weather? Is it worth shelling out (badoom tsh! :p) for a goretex one (if they exist!).

Once winter comes I'll be back in my textiles but in this weather and in Europe being caught in rain they're far too warm!
 
Weise do some I think,all in ones,what about those that the workmen use?

You'll look like a giant banana in them
 
I used to buy the cheap £4.99 one-piece suite from Lidl/Aldi when they got them in.
Buy two so you have a spare if the first gives out and at that price they only have to last a year...

However, I haven't bought any more for about 7 years, as the two I have are holding up STUNNINGLY well.
By comparrison, my very expensive Weisse and Lewis ones each fell to pieces within five uses and at the most inconvenient, chucking-it-down moments over 100 miles from home!

I'd still recommend the cheapy ones, but suggest a two-piece for ease, convenience and all that.
 
I use a rev-it pair of over-trousers and an oxford rain jacket. The rain-jacket is OTT though in the summer, it's really thick.

Both of which have kept me bone-dry in heavy rain.
 
Do a search for Hevik, in particular the HRS107 ultralight rainsuit, folds up very small. Only problem is..no Uk suppliers. Typically priced around 65-70 euros, Ebay have them for £35, but all from Italy.

I personally have a set of Spada all in one suit that I bought 6 years ago, used it loads last year when in Europe and it didn't leak at all in the torrential downpours. But you do sweat in them. Joys of changeable weather and biking. Oh and I look like i'm about to jump out of a plane when i'm wearing them :o

Yeah I saw that one, bit pricey though, over £100!

Seems like they're all basically the same - I'll have a look in my local bike shop and see that they have, as fit is often an issue for me being a lankey **** :D

The Richa rain warrior jacket and trousers get loads of good reviews on sportsbikeshop, £50 for both.
 
My One piece RST waterproofs are Mint, Not only do they keep you bone dry they also keep you really warm as well. Not expensive & have lasted me around 4-5 years now. You also get a bag with a strap on it to strap to your bike or to yourself for when you need them. I just bungee them to my rear seat if I think I'm going to need them then if it rains I pull up under a bridge, Tree or Bus shelter & just slip them on, They open up real wide at the bottoms so you don't have to take your boots off to get them on. :cool:
 
ive also got the RET suit but I'm yet to use it in anger. Seems very solid and is easy to get on in a hurry (admittedly in my living room with the gf timing :p).

I got the Richa Rain Warrior jacket and trousers in May for my Scotland tour, to wear over my one-piece leathers. Easily did the job and after a short while, I couldn't tell I was wearing them. I even worn them for the 7 hour ride home even though it was dry, just so I didn't have to stop to put them on. Not noticeable one bit and kept me completely dry .
 
I had the Richa rain Warrior trousers and Buffalo waterproof jacket over my leathers jacket for my whole Scotland trip, would wear both sometimes 8+ hours a day as it'd rain on and off, so no point taking them off all the time. Didn't get sweaty at all.
 
Ghostbikes di their own Black range that are cheap. Separates though rather than a suit which I prefer.

All waterproofs will be sweaty though, its its waterproof its not breathable for obvious reasons :p

Unless you spash out on goretex textiles.
 
Awesome. That was my main worry, that I'd be soaked from the sweat rather than the rain!

I'll have a look at the weekend in my local shop and if they don't have much I may plump for a set of these. Are either of you tall? The inside leg for the 32" waist is 32" and the 34" is 33" inside leg, so the only thing is they may be a little short (would probably order a 34" waist) but if they tighten down at the bottom of my legs they should be ok.
 
Got a pair of cheap waterproof over trousers from GoOutdoors ages ago and a Richa rain warrior jacket, had both on this morning for my 40 minute commute and arrived fresh and dry at the office even though it was biblical outside.
 
Does anyone put a additional waterproof protection over a waterproof textile? I'm dry as a bone, apart from the legs for which I'll need to get some of those waterproof trousers. :p

I probably would, yeah. No textiles will be 100% waterproof, even the goretex proshell stuff. Water WILL find a way eventually, whether that's through a zip, or a cuff or somewhere.

Adding another layer the water has to get through can only increase the waterproofness.
 
I don't,it does eventually seep through textiles on downpours after a few hours,mainly elbow/inner arms,chest area a little bit

my trousers don't though

If you're having to put waterproofs over waterproof textiles then the waterproof textiles are not waterproof, are they...! :D

Are you sure it's water getting into your waterproof textiles and not just your waterproof textiles making you sweat buckets?
I found the latter to be the case with mine, which is why I'm back in the leathers until I can afford something better than the £50 cheapy junk.
