Rain suits - any decent ones?

Awesome. That was my main worry, that I'd be soaked from the sweat rather than the rain!

I'll have a look at the weekend in my local shop and if they don't have much I may plump for a set of these. Are either of you tall? The inside leg for the 32" waist is 32" and the 34" is 33" inside leg, so the only thing is they may be a little short (would probably order a 34" waist) but if they tighten down at the bottom of my legs they should be ok.

I think that's mainly down to the person, I don't sweat either and that's with

Jeans - Textiles - Waterproofs
T-Shirt - Jacket - Waterproofs

However that's just because I'm moving most of the time. No basic sealed waterproof will be breathable by the sheer fact that they're waterproof. £20 ones will be just as breathable as more expensive ones unless it's something like gore-tex but they're £££££

I probably would, yeah. No textiles will be 100% waterproof, even the goretex proshell stuff. Water WILL find a way eventually, whether that's through a zip, or a cuff or somewhere.

Adding another layer the water has to get through can only increase the waterproofness.

If you're having to put waterproofs over waterproof textiles then the waterproof textiles are not waterproof, are they...! :D

Are you sure it's water getting into your waterproof textiles and not just your waterproof textiles making you sweat buckets?
I found the latter to be the case with mine, which is why I'm back in the leathers until I can afford something better than the £50 cheapy junk.

Nope, my Dainese textile jacket has cleaver air vents which don't let in water whilst closed, they're a ***** to open once you put it on. But all the water just falls down straight onto my kevlar jeans which are not waterproof... That's why I need to buy some bigger waterproof trousers to put over, something thin that will keep the water away. I don't want to sweat because of additional pair of trousers, hopefully I can find some thin waterproof trousers.

I'm still thinking about those 1 piece waterproof suits, but not sure if there's a point in them when I already have a waterproof jacket?

Ghostbikes do some waterproof separates think they're £16 for the trousers and do the job great.

Mine stood up in the biblical rain this morning great!

Today it was properly **** down, back in my garden there were puddles of water. Some roads got flooded from what my dad told me, it wasn't that bad as 3 weeks ago though.

I'll have a look at those waterproof's, if you have them... what kind of sizing are they? I'm usually 34 waist and regular or long depending on jeans manufacturer.

Got a set of the Richa rain warriors from my local shop, I'm 6ft 3 and went for a large trouser (for the length) and a medium jacket. They seem decently well made, a bit thicker compared to some of the others which felt like they'd rip very easily.

Tried out my trousers this morning as it was threatning to **** it down (it didn't) and they could do with being an inch or 2 longer, but they didn't ride up over my boots - half the problem though is my bike, my legs are very bent which doesn't help.

Might look at putting some sort of tie down/strap at the bottom to help secure them round my boots.

Those all in one RST Waterproofs I mentioned earlier are still on sale in my local Drayton Croft, I've had mine years & it's held out & never let any water in no matter what the weather or length I've sat in the saddle, 5 hours in the rain when doing my lessons for starters. Must be pretty good to still be on sale after all these years & the price is still cheap.

The ghostbikes black waterproofs I mentioned come with elasticated straps that go under the sole of your boot to keep them down, didn't the Richa ones? Surprised.

No, nor did any of the others they had (none of which were any longer).

I may fashion something to keep them down, I'll take a look.

£50 well spent

I bought one of these Pro Action Mud jackets recently :-

Wore it a week or so ago on a run up through Glencoe.

It rolls up really small and fits under my seat hump in a little stuff sack. I also keep a pair of breathable North Face climbing trousers under there which have full length zips down each leg. The jacket and trousers fit over my leathers no problem. Some of the guys I was riding with had RST and Rukka waterproof textiles on and were complaining of being wet at the coffee stop pictured above. I was honestly 100% bone dry with my Dainese 2 piece leather suit and the above mentioned jkt and trousers. :D

Well my Richa Rain warrior 2 piece got a testing today, only 40 minutes but some torrential rain on the way to work.

Bone dry, and not sweaty at all once I'd peeled off the layers :)

I do need to wear my other gloves though as my full race goretex gloves have a large wrist protector that is nearly impossible to get the elasticated cuff over with a gloved hand, and I'll make up a strap with clip buckle, part webbing, part elastic, to go under my boots to keep them down as they were edging their way to the top of my boots.

Today is a perfect weather for testing your waterproof suits/jackets, I rode once in a weather like this my jacket did fine, but my kevlar jeans were soaked.

I've got a boiler suite, bought it in Hein Gericke about 8 years ago. It's great! Get's bloody warm, but keeps me dry.

Last time I used it was just north of the Black Forest in Germany last year. Was riding along and suddenly, HUGE down pour. Too much for my summer gortex and leather trousers to resist against.

Pulled under a bridge, where there was 6 other German bikers all donning their waterproof kit on as well. No words exchanged. Just laughs and pointing to the sky followed by shrugs.
