RainX: Should be illegal NOT to!

Might try some of this on my rear screen (no wiper). I normally just polish it but it doesn't last long.

Seems pointless putting it on the front, though.

It's not bad but I found that it wears off too quickly for my liking. It might be different if I had the time and inclination to constantly clean the glass on my car every week and apply this stuff, but I have things to do!

I don't need rainx becuase my car is fitted with windscreen wipers.

On your rear screen and side windows?

You have a strange car.

My rear screen never actually poses a problem unless I am setting off after the car sitting in the rain for a while.

I think the way air rides over saloons, it keeps the screen clear.

I wonder how this would work as a body wax?

Yeah, hatchbacks normally have rear wipers but mine doesn't.

try finding someone who works with helicopters (living near aberdeen it's easy for me) but if you can get your hands on the stuff they put on the chopper windows...you'll laugh in the face of rain-x

I agree. And that's why I'm happy with my recent purchase of these:
http://www.piaa.co.uk/wipers/wipers.asp

These products do help a lot in heavy rain. Even when going down the motorway at a rapid 55 mph rather than 85 in awful weather.

I've used it on all of my cars, on all of the windows (including the wing mirrors), it's brilliant stuff and I've always sworn by using it, means I can see much better, whatever speed the wipers are at as there is less rain on the screen. :)

First used Rain-X before some of you lot were born!

Basically it's total garbage on windscreens. You can only get away without wipers at a decent speed and, once you start driving around town, you'll need to use the wipers which rubs the stuff off in no time.

Side windows by all means but leave the windscreen alone.

See I never found that. Mine lasted for months of wiper and screen wash use, and worked at low speeds, better at high speeds, but certainly worked well at low speeds.

PS: Old fogie. ;) :p

Only used the stuff once. Was an emergency situation kind of. I was on my way to the start line for my university gumball and the windscreen wipers packed in. Stopped off at the local Halfrauds to pick some up and managed to drive across Dartmoor in the rain without wipers! I was impressed I have to say.

I found it pants. Perhaps I didn't put it on properly but when I was doing slow speeds and HAD to use the wipers, it just smeared crap all over my windscreen and I couldn't see a thing hardly! :(

I really wanted it to work aswell.

Sounds like my experience with it. Initially it was fine, then it just looked like someone had smeared the screen in lard everytime it rained.

I tried some Aldi wipes on my Octavia and they were even worse, difference being that the packet says the effect last for a year... great.

I always ensure the car is fully clean, including making sure the wipers are completely cleaned off all grease/crap, and they don't smear...or maybe I've just been lucky...but it's been like that for me on 3 cars, and the same for my brother on many cars too. :)

Carlack Glass Sealant here and it is brilliant, much better than my previous use of autoglym car glass polish. Says on the bottle it will last 2-3 months. So we Shall see.

I put the normal "for paint work" Carlack on my windscreen.. seems to work just fine :D

I wonder what the difference is between the glass and paintwork ones?
