Rally fatality

The Daytona 24hrs is held on the road course not on the oval. Plenty of corners for those "old guffers" to negotiate.

As for CART - well you spoke about reaction times earlier - surely racing at 220mph+ requires decent reaction times?
Andretti also had serveral top 6 finishes on the road courses including a couple of podiums in 93 and 94 when he was 54.

At Le Mans and in other top sportscar series there have been many drivers in their 50s or 60s competing at the sharp end.

These guys could run rings around you in any car anywhere ... and almost certainly could take a bike around a track far quicker than you. Since they are "a danger to themselves" - does that mean you shouldn't be allowed on a track yourself either?

Keep digging that hole. You are talking complete nonsense.

Agree with the others here, while a 56 year old might have slower reaction times than a 26 year old, they should still be plenty quick enough for racing. No reason a fit and healthy 56 year old should not be racing.

By your reasoning, if it's all about reaction time, we would never see young race drivers/riders being injured/dying. Not like that though is it?

And there you have it.. Cart and Daytona.. Thats a whole different ballpark.. Cart and Daytona = guffers day out. Considering neither offer a single corner to negiotiate, I'm not suprised old guffers are still able to compete in either series.

Rally / MotoGP / F1 and well just about 98% of sports out there is for more challenging than a guffers day out Daytona, and at 56yrs you are simply too old and too slow to be able to not be a danger to yourself.

Stop trolling.

Thanks.

I'm almost 100% postive that they would beat me.. I'm not suggesting otherwise.. But myself who's now starting to balance towards middle age as appose to young and fearless, am noticing myself that my reaction and confidence on bike or car is not as good as it use to be.. I attribute that to getting older and slower reaction time as much as I don't like it myself, its cos I'm getting flipping old !! . Like it not, chances are that his guys age contributed to the accident which ultimately cost him his life !

No need to throw your rattles out of your pram. I'm not trolling, just stating what I believe to be obvious, and you all seem blinded by the fact that he was nearing his retirement ????

Do actually know what happened or is this just wild speculation? You think the accident was attributed to a 30ms drop in reaction time, or maybe he just made the same mistake a teenager or a 30 year old would have made. Maybe I wouldn't take much notice of your rubbish if it had some fact to it, but at the moment the only details you know, are the ones you have made up.

If your reaction times are that badly impared, I suggest you visit your doctor, return your license to the appropriate licensing authority and don't even consider driving a car or riding a bike again. There is something seriously medically wrong if you think that your senses will be that badly compromised by the time you are in your mid 50s.

Fortunately for most people any loss of reaction times etc associated with old age are not enough to prevent them from racing safely and competetively. As per my examples above (and 1000s of other guys racing into their 50s, 60s and 70s) there is plenty of evidence to prove this is so.

To suggest that age was any factor in this accident, for which you clearly know none of the details, is absolutely moronic. Please have some respect and troll in a different thread.
