RAM addition issues

I have an EMachines E3048 PC running Vista 32-bit.

I have two identical 1Gb RAM sticks (one was taken from an identical pc).

The computer has two RAM slots and according to the Crucial memory checker, it can handle up to 2 Gb of RAM.

With either stick in either slot, the computer will turn on and windows will load.

With both sticks in, the computer will turn on but windows will not load. Several errors come up including:

'File: \Windows\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe

Status: 0xc0000221

Info: Windows failed to load because the kernel is missing or corrupt'

and

'File: \Windows\system32\drivers\acpi.sys

Status: 0xc0000221

Info: Windows failed to load because a critical file is missing or corrupt'

I have run Memtest with both sticks of RAM in and it came up with errors within a few minutes and 6 hours later was still coming up with errors.

Have also tried removing CMOS battery and resetting BIOS and nothing seems to work.

Trying both sticks in the other identical machine allows the computer to power up but my monitor doesnt recive a signal from it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as this one has me stumped.

I take it both sticks pass memtest without errors when tested individually? (You only mentioned windows load)

Sounds like you may need to up the ram or memory controller voltage a bit, although not sure if that option will be available on an Emachines pc.
More long shot, try selecting lower ram speed and looser (higher number) timmings if you can and see if that helps.
