Hi,

Im looking to build a system with a AMD Ryzen 5 7500F with a B650 or 850 motherboard.

Looking online it says i need, The ideal RAM for the AMD Ryzen 5 7500F is 16GB (2 x 8GB) of DDR5-6000 CL30 memory with an AMD EXPO profile

So looking online for that RAM im seeing prices from around £250

Is this normal ? am i choosing the correct RAM ?

Please suggest some RAM lowest price prefered :p

Thanks Ben

DDR5 is very expensive.. The above spec is probably the sweet spot, for the sake of argument, but slower kits are not much cheaper at all...

What are you intending to use the machine for and do you have any intention to upgrade it in the foreseeable future?

So I'm looking at the correct RAM but it's DDR5 and very expensive.

This is the correct stuff right,

Kingston FURY Beast EXPO/XMP RGB 16GB (2x8GB) DDR5 PC5-48000C30 6000MHz Dual Channel Kit
£289.99

Is DDR4 much cheaper.

Thanks Ben.

Unfortunately it's a result of the increased demand due to AI.

Whilst DDR5-6000 CL30 is probably the "sweet spot", dropping down a speed grade or two isn't going to make a huge difference (typically 5%, and even then every game is different)

If you can stretch to it, then you absolutely should, however if Money is really tight then going to a slower kit, or even a single channel kit (the 1x16GB below comes with a matching "filler" stick), isn't going to lose much performance, and at some point (e.g. if prices ever come down) then upgrading to a 32GB or 48GB kit would be preferable (and generally involves replacing your existing RAM, as running 4 sticks can be problematic)

My basket at OcUK:
Total: GBP421.97 (includes delivery: GBP11.99)

Not gaming at this point but that might change in a year or so.

Maybe I should go for second hand am4 system.

Is DDR4 slot cheaper ?

Thanks Ben

You've got decent answers already but just to point out you can't use DDR4 with that CPU/motherboard anyway so you need DDR5.

AM4 based system will be cheaper but honestly if you have the budget then AM5 gives you upgrade paths whereas AM4 doesn't. I'd suggest you post your budget and needs etc in the appropriate forum https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/read-first-build-and-upgrade-advice-template.19002453/

If not gaming, then get the cheapest DDR5 available - no need to focus on speed or CAS or even dual channel. Either a single stick 6000Mhz or dual channel 5600mhz will only be about 5% slower than the "sweet spot", and saves you £50 straight away.

It's cheaper but somewhat a false economy, buying into a dead end platform this late in the day

If not gaming then get whatever ram you can find for cheap. You won't see any difference, even if it's a single 16GB stick rather than 2x8GB.
DDR4 is cheaper but buying a DDR4 system system now is a dead end. It'll serve you very well for a year or two but you'll find yourself needing a complete system upgrade after that rather than just a new CPU.

Rob's right though, I'd suggest taking the time to read this and let the community help you build a cost effective machine :)

Can you clarify what your usage of the PC is?

When you do plan on gaming, what games, resolution and graphics card?

DDR4 is cheaper (half the price), but not 'cheap'. You can still find used sticks close to the old prices.

If you're just after a basic desktop for browsing and office, then I'd look for a used bundle, or an old prebuilt.

If this PC is going to be upgraded heavily in the future, then I'd just eat the cost of DDR5 (to get onto a newer platform).

Keep in mind the 7500F does not have graphics (no F model does), so you'll need a graphics card for the time being. There is a 7400 (with graphics), but it only has half the cache of the 7600/7600X (not good for gaming).

8500G and 8600G are options too, if you want some very light gaming, since their graphics are stronger than the regular CPUs.
