I've never understood the link between the FSB of ram and cpu?
I ahve in mind that ideally they should be 1:1 so should ram (or is it the cpu) be overclocked so they matched?

Just read this in an other thread and I would also like to know.

Basically DDR run at double the speed of the CPU's FSB. So if you have an FSB set to 200 your RAM would be running at 400MHz. So PC6400 runs at 800MHz so to get a ratio of 1:1 your FSB needs to be set to 400.

The multiplier is changed so the RAM can run as fast as it can without having to set the FSB to 400MHz.

okay totally being a noob/confused i admit but.....the new core2quads (eg 9450) has a FSb of 1333mhz, so what your saying ideally i would need ramn thats 2666mhz =S which i know doesnt exist (well to the mass market maybe).

It doesn't matter what ratio you run at any more, and hasn't since the P4s. Just run at the fastest speed your CPU and RAM can handle.

okay

and while iam at it, any good sights for setting up overclocking, just trying to learn for when i build mine.
and for installing ram, for dual what ever its called, do most mother boards go like (for example)

A1
B1
A2
B2

I hope that makes sense, i dont really know how to explain it, since iam on a massive brain-blank.
