Ram designed purely for overclocking....

It appears that what they have done is to find an IC they can certify at 4,4,4,12 with 1.8v. At this stage of DDR2 development this is nothing special IMO. I have not seen much at all made with Samsung DDR2 ICs. I wonder how fast they will clock and how they will respond to voltage?
 
well for £80 quid i wonder if this is just to get them into the market then they will start bringing out new products at higher prices once they get a reputation.
 
Well, I would suspect that Samsung is ramping up for more DDR3 production and the ICs or modules used here are going EOL soon. Most likely, this memory is inexpensive right now and will be phased out soon. I'm certainly not saying anything bad about the memory company. This is all speculation on what I would predict Samsung to be doing.

All 8500 RAM at the moment is rated at 5-5-5-12/15/18 i think.


My Balistix Tracer 8500 could do 600mhz @ 4-4-4-12 with 2.3V. that was mightly good stuff.

This is nothing special, its the basic PC9200 kit underclocked with better timings and voltage drop. (dont get me wrong 1.8 is v impressing for 4-4-4-12). It just shows that DDR2 is ending its life cycle. DDR3 is making much bigger jumps and its still brand new, a couple of months and its already blew the official spec out the window.
 
DDR2 has already been pushed to its limits. We know this. But i cant see anything that justifies the price of DDR3. Especialy when for the same price ratio you will get better performance with DDR2 to the compared DDR3 in the price range unless you pay extreme prices to get better timings.
 
DDR3 will come down soon. Right now it is simply that the fabs are not yet making or selling much DDR3 so it is still VERY expensive. But, just like with DDR2 pushing out the original DDR, DDR3 is the RAM of the future. Who knows, it probably won't be long before we are saying "wow, DDR4 is just too expensive".
 
As far as AnandTech goes Ocz is at the top of the memory charts impressive speed!...but lets not talk about the price you have to pay :eek:
