Ram failure or motherboard?

Hi,

Last week my pc (Home Build) decided that it no longer wants to pass the POST. I have an ASUS mobo and the MemOk light now stays a solid red on power on. After trying both ram sticks individually (2 x 4gb DDR3 Patiot) and using the MemOk button the system still wont pass POST. It had blue screened a few times in the last few months but not at any regular interval. I am assuming this is RAM failure but does anyone know how I could know this for sure?

Thanks,
Chris

It might be an issue with RAM but it would be odd for both sticks to fail at once (you say neither allow it to post)

See if you know anyone at work/friend who can fix you up with some test RAM to try?

Seems odd that both stick would go bad at once, can you not get in to the bios at all to check the settings are ok for the ram. I had a similar problem with my Asus Z77 Sabertooth doing the same thing on boot up but if I removed two ram sticks it started up fine. In the end a bios update fixed it as it was a compatibility issue with my samsung green ram.

If you have the same bios button as I have on the back of the motherboard it may be possible to restore the bios from a usb drive. As far as I know this doesn't require the motherboard to post as its designed for if the bios becomes corrupt.

Both sticks failing seemed odd to me as well. Is there a formal procedure for testing each stick as all I did was remove both and test each one in the first ram slot and also in a few other slots?

Unfortunately I haven't found anyone to lend me a ram stick to test and I cannot find a BIOS button on my mobo. Any other ideas?
