Hi. What budget RAM would be alright with the above mobo/cpu? I'll be mostly using the system for time-wasting and general crap, but also from time to time some video and audio projects, and animation.

Also, regarding the quantity, it seems fairly uncertain whether most people would even notice the difference between 4GB and 8GB - but many say that one "might as well" get 8GB because it's cheap. But, it's still more expensive than 4GB isn't it...

Also, is there any way that the following old RAM would work on my mobo:

"DDR PC3200, DDR PC2700, DDR (non-ECC)"

???

Thanks

You need DDR3, so none of that stuff you've listed will work :)

As for 4GB vs. 8GB, it depends on your budget. 8GB isn't much more, so for the sake of futureproofing, I'd just go for 8GB.

As reflux said that old stuff won't work.

At today's prices you should buy one of these:

Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit £19.98 until tomorrow morning.

Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit £35.99 until tomorrow morning.

Basically buy the cheapest 1600MHz RAM by a reputable manufacturer.

New weekly offer come out some time tomorrow morning at OcUK.

And if you can afford it get 8GB (assuming you're using a 64 bit OS).
