RAM frequency problem

Hi All,

Up until tonight i have run my AMD 3700 with 1gb (2x512mb) of Corsair XMS pc 4000 memory. And when i ran CPUID with this setup it said that my CPU bus speed was 200MHz and my RAM frequency was 200MHz.

Tonight i added a further 1gb of pc4000 ram to my mobo. When i ran CPUID my CPU bus speed still showed 200MHz but my ram frequency dropped to 160MHz.

Have i done something wrong or is this normal.

Does that make four 512mb sticks?

IIRC the 939 boards dropped the memory speed to DDR333 with 4 sticks.

No it is 3 sticks 2x512mb and 1x1gb

why does it drop the frequency?

Is says it will take a maxium of 3gb at DDR333, so is it correct to presume that even though i have got 2gb of ram, as it is spread across the 3 dimms it reduces the ram frequency to 160mHz.
