RAM issues can anyone help

Hi guys, i have an mpower z77 motherboard with g skill ripjaws x 1600mhz series and i cant get the motherboard to boot up in dual channel setting, the only way the pc boots up is if i place my modules in the 3rd and 4th slots but if i set them in dual channel configuration which are 2 and 4 my pc ends up going into a reboot loop.

I've replaced my motherboard from amazon thinking that the motherboard was the issues but i guess that's not what causing the problems, i've already asked amazon today to send me replacement ram modules to test out if it is the RAM thats causing it.

I've had this problem for sometime now and its really doing my head in.

Can anyone help me out or should i wait until i get the new RAM modules.

does it boot up with just one stick installed in slot 2? test both sticks one by one in slot 2 and 4 one at a time

things to check regarding faulty memory slots are cpu socket bent pins and an overtightened cpu cooler

I tried boot the pc using each stick but wont boot up successfully i dont think its a bent cpu pin because its a brand new board and i haven't tighten the cpu cooler that badly because am only using a stock cooler atm. Boot up only occurs when both sticks are in the 3rd and 4th slots.

I've asked amazon for a replacement so am waiting for them to send it to me. Do you know any other ram that would work better with this board or am i just one of those people who are cursed lol. I've had this same problem when i had an Asrock Extreme 4 mobo.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I doubt its ram,it simply wouldn't boot in any slot,if its booting in slots 3 and 4 then it should work in the remaining slots

Pretty sure its bent CPU socket pins

I did find something odd tho wen i loaded up the bios and went to check out my voltages for the ram the readings show 1.49, i've tried changing them to 1.50 but when i reboot to check if the changes were made for some odd reason the settings under current voltage in the Dram voltage section remains at 1.49, even tho i changed it.

Do you know why it would keep the settings?

does that memory support xmp? could try enabling that in the bios

Put 1.65v on the RAM, set XMP and run memtest with one stick at a time. This will show if the RAM is defective. Dont rule out a problem with the CPU maybe a problem with IMC and dual channel. Can you test another CPU.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the help, memtest 86 reported errors in my ram so am going to refund them and get a new pair of modules. Am pretty good when it comes to PC hardware but i always get dragged down whenever it comes to RAM modules lol, hopefully this time around when i get new modules everything should be fine

Personally, I always buy a small cheap stick of ram in every size (ie, 1x 512mb DDR2 stick, 1x 512mb DDR3 stick)

These always come in handy when trying to find a problem with a machine.. I know my ram tests fine, so I remove the current ram from the machine before even trying memtest. (if it's a failing to boot issue)
