I am speccing up a C2D E6300 rig and i am having some troubles finding compatible (cheap) ram.

i am going for the Asrock Conroe945G-DVI Motherboard which states on the Asrock website that it supports Dual Channel DDRII 667/533

I was going to go for the GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC5300 667MHz Value DDR2 but the post HERE is slightly worrying.

I have been looking at Corsair 1GB DDR2 XMS2-5400C4 TwinXas an alternative but this is listed as running at 675MHz.

As the Mboard says it only supports 667/533 does this mean it is incompatible??

Does anyone have any suggestions for any other RAM that is similarly priced?

The memory frequency and mobo frequency don't have to match to an exact figure.

The rated frequency for the RAM is the maximum that the manufacturer recommends, and provides warranty for. However, generally speaking RAM can be used at a lower frequency without any hassles at all.

Hence if you were to buy 1000Mhz DDR2 RAM, it should work fine on the mobo you suggested. It would have course be a waste of money, but demonstrates my point!

I think what the spec of the mobo is suggesting is that they do not recommend or provide ways of using RAM rated for frequencies below the frequencies they state.

I have a liking for Geil RAM. It always seems to work very well and overclock well, and it's great value as well :)
