Brand new hardware.

ASRock B450M Pro4-F, AMD B450, S AM4, DDR4, SATA3, Dual M.2, 2-Way CrossFire, Realtek GbE, USB 3.1 Gen1 A+C, MicroATX

AMD Ryzen™ 3 3300X, AM4, Zen 2, 4 Core, 8 Thread, 3.8GHz Base, 4.3GHz Turbo, 18MB Cache, PCIe 4.0, 65W, CPU

Crucial Ballistix BL2K8G32C16U4B 3200 MHz, DDR4, DRAM, Desktop Gaming Memory Kit, 16GB (8GB x2), CL16, Black (not changed speed from default in settings). It's definitely pushed in all the way and sat in the correct slots according to the manual.

Elsewhere it's showing:

Please help,

Thanks.

doesn't look like you ram is supported by the mobo, checked asrock's site and i can't see any mention of that specific kit you have

https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B450M Pro4-F/#MemoryPR

click on memory qvl (pinnacle ridge)

also worth noting the pc should not boot to the bios without ram installed, instead there should be a boot led that should be illuminated indication a problem or a series of beeps or a post code.

does the pc boot to windows?

in the second pic the ram has changed it's not the original one you listed (BL2K8G32C16U4B) it now shows (bl8g32c16u4b.m8fe1) again going on to asrocks page and this new kit of ram is also not on the tested memory kits, so likely not compatible either.

checking online and the kits of ram that ARE compatible from crucial are

BLS8G4D32AESBK.8FE (3200mhz kit, 8gb)
BLS8G4D26BFSBK.8FD (2666mhz kit, 8gb)
BLS16G4D26BFSB.16FD (2666mhz, 16gb)

Argh! What a stupid mistake.

I've got a Windows USB plugged in and it crashes immediately so I'm thinking it is definitely the RAM.

I thought I checked this before ordering.

Thanks, I looked through the list.

https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B450M Pro4-F/#MemoryPR

It looks like there aren't any RAM modules that support 3200 speeds on both slots 2 & 4. Am I right?

Luckily I bought it from Amazon so return is easy.

as long as the memory is on the qvl it shouldn't matter i had a quick look and upto 4000mhz is supported but for compatibility 3200mhz is recommended in various configurations as long as the supported kit is installed in a2/b2 (2,4) ram slots then it should be fine, if you buy a quad channel kit it wont matter just populate all of the slots.

have a look at corsair lpx kits, having had many over the years they've always worked out of the box, but check on the website first, the kit below should do nicely (amd optimized)

I've seen a lot of bad reviews of Corsair RAM used in conjunction with AMD CPUs.

Can you see what I mean when referring to the list, it mentions 2/4 for 2933 but none of the 3200 modules?

on the list online there are plenty of kits in the 3200mhz region that work in 2 or 4 stick configs, examples pulled directly from the list (qvl pinnacle ridge)

DDR4 ADATA 3200 3200 8GB AX4U320038G16-BRZ Nanya SS 2
DDR4 Corsair 3200 3200 8GB CMR16GX4M2D3200C16 SS 2
DDR4 Corsair 3200 3200 8GB CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 Samsung B SS 2
DDR4 Corsair 3200 3200 8GB CMR16GX4M2B3200C16 Hynix C SS 2
DDR4 Corsair 3200 3200 8GB CMW16GX4M2C3200C16 ver 5.33 Hynix D SS 2
DDR4 Corsair 3200 3200 16GB CMR32GX4M2B3200C16 Hynix C DS 2
DDR4 Corsair 3200 3200 16GB CMR32GX4M2D3200C16 DS 2
DDR4 Crucial 3200 3200 8GB BLS8G4D32AESBK.8FE SS 2

regarding corsair issues with amd, i found with the lpx kits i had were iffy with intel products rather than amd, my nephews pc was a 6600k and not one lpx kit worked at rated speed, swapped over to a 2600x and 3000mhz lpx worked out of the box

Ah, so it's not referring to slot 2/4, it's referring to number of modules. Thanks for your list.

you got it :), the lpx kit i suggested is ryzen 3rd gen tuned so it should be a lot better than older lpx offerings.

just to note too, earlier you mention another retailer, thats not allowed on the forum so could do with being edited out :)

Thinking about it, should the board even be able to read the DRAM if it's not compatible?

I can't see any reference to any retailer in this thread.

Done, I'm a bit miffed because there are loads of RAM modules not on the QVL that work and now I want to be sure this definitely isn't compatible before sending it back.

try running it below 3000mhz just to see, tbh you have a 3rd gen chip so ram speed should be very good regardless, i did see earlier in the post that you had the right bios version installed (p2.00) so ram compatibility should be better, though could be luck of the draw and your unlucky with the ram you have

ram's likely not compatible, if it keeps disappearing then it's time to replace with another set from a different manufacture

Shall I go for
Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4 3200 MHz C16 XMP 2.0 High Performance Desktop Memory Kit, Black?
