hi yall,

hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

im running xp on an asus p5w mobo and have just added another 2 gig of ddr2 6400 supposidly making 4 gig which shows in the bios as 4g but only shows as 3 gig in windows.

is there a known fix for this,

i have searched around and have seen this with vista but not xp.

any advances please chaps.

thanks in advance

Your most likely using a 32bit O/S so that means you will only see about 3-3.2GB of Memory.

32bit O/S can see upto 4GB of Memory but this includes other memory such as the graphics card and etc..

ok so i have a xfire x1950 aswell.

does this mean the ram will not be seen unless i upgrade to 64 bit?

or is the ram actually being used and just not being shown?

is there anything else i can do to make it work?

thanks for the reply,

im sure it does get asked a few weeks but after a few searches i didnt find anything apart from vista questions.

but hey ho thats forum life for you.

same old repetitive questions..time and time again...

after paying for my copy of windows its a pain when you have to upgrade and spend it all over again..

so while im on the subject can any one point me to a post about the pros and cons of a 64bit o/s

i dont really want pista so it would have to be xp again and also any nice cheap places to purchase :)

does bill do cheap? lol i doubt it,

thanks for your time ;)

theres a 180 day (iirc) trial of Windows XP x64 on the microsoft website. might be worth trying to see if you like the benefits of x64 OSes
