RAM prices about to go crazy??

Hi there

We've managed to secure enough stock from the manufacturers at the pre-disaster price as such all our pricing is extremely aggressive if the not the lowest pricing in the UK. Fill your boots! :D

Good to know. One competitor I've been watching has just today bumped up their prices significantly. What was £82.34 is now a round £100!

Hi there

Well I've got 8GB 1600 kits sub £50 and 16GB around £95ish and these are all premium brands, no unbranded rubbish.

I was very quick to get orders in when my contacts in far east sent me photos of the factory and all my suppliers shipped at the agreed prices.

Since my cost have increased between 10-30% depending on capacity/brand.

Times like this I wish I was in the UK and able to buy from OC, I live in NZ and the price of ram has gone up almost double the price. I'm just hoping it will settle down soon, come set up shop over here Gibbo :p
I fear my new rig is going to be put on hold for a while :/

Anyone any idea on a likely time for prices to recover?

I'm long overdue an upgrade (Q6600, DDR2 RAM!) yet I have other bills to pay first. Will the prices have reverted in say 6 months time?

Have the prices you've been looking at shifted much over the last couple of weeks?

I bought 16GB DDR3 SODIMM on the day of the fire for £82. The same company is now selling the same Crucial RAM for £114. However, other brands haven't shifted as much. I think OcUK's similar spec GeIL only increased around a tenner.

Yeah - prices certainly haven't gone up like HDD did. Over the last fortnight it looks like rises have been 0-40%. I suspect many of the larger increases were more panic than reality and as such expect they'll come back down again soon. We shall see.

I bought a 16Gb kit on special on here for £29 its now over £80 for the same kit, its been slowly creeping up while everyone kits out for the switch to DDR4, this hasn't helped anyone though,

I wouldn't say it's a false alarm.

Some products from some retailers changed a lot, others very little. I've been watching 2x8GB DDR SODIMMS, I notice OcUK's GeIL has gone up tenner for a second time recently. Other retailers have hiked the price a lot more.

I bought 2x8GB Crucial DDR3 1333MHz SODIMM on the day of the fire for £82 - the same place is now selling for £116 (up another £2 from last week). That same RAM is now a lot more than £82 everywhere. On the day of the fire OcUK's equivalent GeIL was around £80, today it's £100.

RAM should be traded in the stock market.

There will be a lot of hudge fund managers who buy RAM stocks in the summer when sales are rock bottom and then sell the stocks in November,

I desperately need to stick an additional 12gb in each of my render nodes but at these prices (about £100 for each kit) there's just no way. Gonna have to wait a few more months I guess.... painful.
