I've noticed lately that Ram prices are getting higher. Is this likely to continue or shall I hold off buying some extra Ram and wait for the prices to drop a bit?

Depends how quickly you need it. Memory prices aren't likely to start dropping until after Christmas now as demand is going to increase as we get to the end of the year rather than drop.

Dollar will have an effect too but DRAM prices are the main problem at the moment. NAND is the same.

i noticed to price of DDR2 has increased rather sharply, was looking for a possible 4 GB upgrade to faster ram then what i have now that i learn that windows XP can in theory 'use' 4 GB :)

everything has got higher recently. hard disks..the lot. i remember after buying my system the prices went up considerably. that was last sept/oct

Yeah I just noticed this too my Corsair Dominator 4GB was £123 last July then it went right down to £70ish. Now it's £142. My PC350 headphones are now over £25 more expenisve. Other things have gone down, a WD 1tb is now only £62 I paid £85

The manufacturers in the IT industry have almost been their own worst enemy in this recession.

The markets have started to improve but due to what they forecasted 6-12 months ago has no resemblance on how much people are buying now. It could have gone the other way to be fair but it was obvious things would start to recover at some point.

Manufacturers have either increased prices due to higher production costs or because they don't have large amounts of stock they refuse to do volume deals when a small amount of stock becomes available.

If I'd known it was going to go up I would have bought new and sold the old stuff now :D Guess I will just stick to plan a which is upgrade when I really need to or on motherboard change

I guess it will come back down again unless uk goes like iceland and cant import anything

It seems like availability has also dropped so proces are higher, particularly with DDR2. Theres hardly any on sale here now which is very disapointing

So we can assume then that when our country finally lifts out of this recession prices will drop back down to where they were 12 months ago?

Would you like some straws.... to grasp at?

hehe just messing with you but i cant see it lifting for another 2 years

This is part of the reason I went from 4GB to 8GB. I got the 2nd set when prices were low. 4GB black dragon 6400 for ~£38. They seem to cost best part of £100 now. The same thing happend with DDR1 and with SD-RAM.

DDR3 prices aren't much better though, almost twice the price for the 3x2GB modules i bought in June.

It's mad. I got lucky and got some OCZ Platinum stuff for ~£50. I then sold my old kingston value ram (2x2gb sets) for £40 altogether. That is what I paid for it about a year ago! The price for it now is on average about £30 for 2gb.
