Ram Prices Increasing?

I noticed that GSkill Ripjaw (1600Mhz, DDR3 Dual Channel) went up about £15, and are now well over priced!

There have been some bargains to be had during this recession, but right now everything is expensive. I don't really see things dropping in price for a while either.

I bought my ram for around £40-£45 back in Jan I think it was. Was considering upgrading to 8GB thinking it would set me back 30 odd quid but I can't seem to find the exact same ram, however, a similar set is £80!

Whats the actual reason behind this? I noticed every single UK supplier has upped their ddr2 prices at least by 40%.

Is it just so when they get to jan they can do a sweet "january sale" and put all the prices back to normal?

lets hope so i would like to buy some 4gb ddr2 for around the 40 quid mark if it ever happens again :D

Bring on the Jan sales then. I think little Timmy shall go wanting this Christmas so I have some moolah left over to spend :D

I think it's just ridiculous. I might consider selling all my spare ram when I get access to the members market lol.

I bought some RAM on Monday, luckily.

Whats the lifespan like on DDR2 memory now, as more and more DDR3 floods the shops I too was considering buying an extra 4Gb before it became too hard to find. Wow did I get a shock. :o

My last purchase was in May -

£34.77 x 1 - OCZ Gold Edition 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 Dual Channel (OCZ2G10664GK)

Now I'm looking at £90 or so it seems for a kit that would match :(

Whoop

For me its good as I should really be saving money for a deposit and it stops me doing pointless upgrades like 4gb to 8gb just cos its only £40 odd lol :p

Yeah I do lots of cheap upgrades just like your 8800gt's they no doubt cost peanuts but still offer nice bang per buck as I picked up an additional one for £30 and it made a world of difference in Crysis!

Upgrades always end up costing me lots as I end up with spares! Which I then always build up guest PCs with ... but then I need monitors, mice keyboards, psus, cases ect :o :D

IC prices are going up which of course makes RAM module prices go up. And, these prices fluctuate VERY quickly, about as fast as fresh market fish at times.

Keep in mind that the IC fabs have been losing $$$ billions for the past couple of years as IC pricing and especially DDR2, was tanked. But, they cannot sustain that. Prices are going up.

It costs more to make DDR3 and the fabs are switching to making DDR3. So, now there is less supply for DDR2 which is another factor in driving prices up.

Typical....the heatsinks on my ram have fallen off and I've got to send it away to OCZ and now I've got to buy some more so that I'm not without my PC while my ram goes off to Netherlands... what's the best thing to do?

Should I just buy budget ram for the couple of weeks and then sell it on?

Or keep it as spares if you can afford to do so.

Man... I hadn't even noticed RAM price increases until today... nightmare! They've doubled since i last bought any.

Guess I dont need that extra 4gb really.
