hi all again lol

in cpu-z n in my bios its says my ram is set to unganged mode, what is this? n do i need to change it if my ram is dual channel?

and my real ram speed is DRAM Frequency X 2 right?

Yes to the second part of the question, don't know to the first. You shouldn't have to change any settings for dual channel though as long as the RAM is in the correct slots.

This might have been better in the memory forum though.

As above, memory should be in same colour slots

memory tab should look like this

DDR3 Dual
4096 Symmetric

Im guessing it sys unganged in one of the two on the right? In which case yeah I suspect its only running single channel

My AMD setup shows the same, I have the option to change this in the BIOS.

It's called DCT Unganged Mode - Auto = Ganged mode
Always = Unganged mode.

From Wikipedia:
Ganged vs Unganged

Dual-channel was originally conceived as a way to maximize memory throughput by combining two 64-bit buses into a single 128-bit bus. This is retrospectively called the "ganged" mode. However, due to lackluster performance gains in consumer applications as discussed above, more modern implementations of dual-channel use the "unganged" mode by default, which maintains two 64-bit memory buses but allows independent access to each channel, in support of multithreading with multi-core processors.

Cheers RJC, can you tell my own system have been Intel for years? lol, built plenty of AMD for others but not used one for ages, always good to pick up new knowledge :)

No probs, I was the same as you, been pretty much Intel and decided to build a cheap AMD system with some spare items.

Checked CPU-Z and saw unganged mode and had not a clue what is was, had a hunt around and found some answers :)
