Ram speeds with Q6600

hi guys, I just noticed my ram is not running at 400mhz as it should be (I oc'd the cpu fsb from 266 to 290 and thought I'd check the speeds in everest and cpu-z)

I notice the ram was never running at the 400mhz speed (effective 800mhz ddr) as I have a pair of corsair XMS2 DDR800 sticks.

Everest shows this:

and in the SPD section of Everest it shows:

Memory Timings (default usables)
@ 400 MHz 5-5-5-18 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) / 22-42-3-6-3 (RC-RFC-RRD-WR-WTR)
@ 270 MHz 4-4-4-13 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) / 15-29-3-5-3 (RC-RFC-RRD-WR-WTR)

Now i'm wondering, the ram was at 200mhz stock and bios settings are ste to "auto" everything except the cpu fsb which is now at 290mhz giving a ram speed of 362mhz - should it not be 400mhz at stock? IIRC I read in some artciles in the past that some mobos you need to manually set *** ram speed (I have an Asus P5KC)

or am I missing something here!
 
Ah Multi will need to be 6, 400x6 = 2400 or if I want 2.8ghz then 7 :p
 
Why are you running your q6600 so slow? :P

Is it a GO or B3?

If its a Go put it on 9x400 with upped volts and see if you can get 3.6 that will give you ram at 400mhz on a 1:1, if you can overclock the ram you could put the divider at 4:5 and run the ram at 1000mhz.

Or do the cpu at 9x390 and have 3.5ghz and run the ram at just under 1000mhz on a 4:5 ratio.


what ram do you have?

And are you using the stock cooler or after market?

Put it on 8*400 and put your ram at 400. 1:1 ratio and a good overclock on the cpu.

I actually put it on 400x6 to get the stock 2.4ghz but of course with faster FSB but that didn't happen - in fact it clocked itself to 3.6GHz which booted and ran perfectly fine!!!

The CPU was idling at 51-55 though and rising beyond 70 under any load :p

I will try 400x8 as the ram atm is at 400 :)

I doubt you'll get 3.6 on air and stable with Prime 95...:eek:
 
OH missed the extra questions!

I'm using a Freezer7 Pro on AS5, I have CL5 Corsair TwinX PC6400 2GB ram

It appears stable at 3GHZ+ but the temps are just too high for my liking so I've dropped down to sensible speeds (such as stock! for now) - I will have to look at getting a G0 and sell the B3 on the Bay or something I think.

What cooling are you using and what are your temperatures? Anything under 75degrees is perfectly fine if its running prime as it will never run that hot in real life.
