Hi all hope you are well.

I am looking to upgrade my laptop's ram. It currently has 4gb soldered non removable and 4gb removable (compartment).

I checked the max memory my laptop can take via cmd which is 16gb.

Because that soldered 4gb is non removable does that mean i can only upgrade to 12gb by swapping the removable 4gb with 8gb.

Or can I put a 16gb stick in the removable slot to total 20gb? Would the laptop just use 16gb?

Laptop name: ASUS X556UA-DM326T
Intel i7 6500u

Please help. Just need to know what i can/cant do.

Thanks

I believe you are correct. You can only get at the 4gb module and replace it with an 8gb module giving you a total of 12gb. I am not an expert in that particular model but everything I can find says the maximum upgrade you can install is the 8gb module.
