Looking to overclock my ram but on air am having issue with temps giving errors when testing stability, any thing over 40*c throws up error in tm5, have 2 fan blowing on ram sticks
using gskill 6400 kit on apex encore
Should i buy better ram sticks?
Is it worth water cooling the ram?

40c is pretty low for errors, the water in my loop easily gets up to that if I let the fans runs quietly.
Especially in summer when ambient can be over 30.
Watercooling ram is also done for looks, not for performance. A fan on it should archive similar.
It works via a metal heatsink on the sticks that then sits against a block, so it isn't that efficient in heat transfer, normally. I think maybe koolance did a block where each stick was cooled individually directly but that might only work with a gap between slots being used.

Overall, I'd probably look for better ram if 40c is giving errors.

Temperature should not be an issue at 6400, unless you are running the sticks at higher speeds ?

Also 40c should be fine. It's normally Trefi that's temp sensitive.

Which TM5 errors show up ? There's a spreadsheet that helps identify the cause of the error below.

Thank you. so ram water blocks are not needed?
Tm5 error 1.4.5
What safe maximum temp can ram sticks handle?
Would getting 8000mhz work out fo the box, providing mobo and cpu are good enough?

Not necessarily waterblocks but sufficient cooling is needed for higher speeds/ Trefi.

I need waterblocks for 8800C38/ 8600C36 TREFI @ 262143, fan at 3000RPM and custom heatsinks weren't sufficient. Was getting errors around 45-50c.
8400XMP worked fine past 60c however.

Gskill states the PMIC can go up to 80-90c which was their reasoning for no thermal pad on them.

Doubtful your sticks can do 8000. When I had 6600C36 Gskill A-die 7200-7400 was the best I can do on an Apex Silver.

Whats your MC SP score ?
