Ramadan Mubarak

Ramadan Mubarak guys! Good luck! :)

There's no luck involved :p Only self control to not eat or drink!

Edit*

Oh yeah, at the end on the last day the feast you have before you at the table makes an expensive 3 course meal look like dessert. And that's not just at your home, but every friend/family you visit that day.

Which is nice.

Ramadhan Mubarak to all!

For the uninitiated, this is the month of renewal for the followers of Islam. It is the month to sharpen spiritual awareness and the practice of religion by abstaining from physical desires.

It is the month of mercy and forgiveness, where muslims seek peace through the forgiveness of others and refraining from anger. It is the month of Rewards and Blessings through the performance of good deeds and charitable work. It is a month to reflect inwardly as individuals in order improve our behaviours, and to be grateful for the luxuries that we have been Blessed with.

It is a month of improvement.

Last time I did it I think it was a whole month later than now. Must be horrid to do it this time of the year!

I can tell you that it is horrible to do it this time of year. It's 47c outside today. I'm not even fasting, but having to hide away to quench thirst is not easy so can't imagine how those guys practicing must be feeling.

Out of curiosity, what would happen with an observant Muslim who was very close to a pole during Ramadan? There can be two months between sunrise and sunset and the colder environment requires a greater intake of food and water.

What about an observant Muslim permanently living fairly close to a pole, close enough to get, say, 20-hour days?

What if, at some point in the future, an observant Muslim goes on a long space trip, so they're living in an artificial environment in which day and night are completely arbritrary and have nothing to do with the sun? Or, further ahead still, lives permanently onboard ship, or on a spacestation of some kind? What if they lived on a different planet?

Ramadan Mubarak all... 30 days fasting is gona be hard this time around. Did fast about 2 weeks ago for 3 days and it was hard....

The avatar in your sig depicts a Cannabis leaf, so one presumes you partake in a little 'recreational consumption' ;)

Presumably this is against Muslim rules, if that's the case, why do you observe Ramadan?

I was thinking the same thing. Goes to show that religions and rules cater for the knowledge at the time of their creation and the geographical locations only.

Ah i see. Some people like to be abit picky... ;)

Yes you can presume that. Reality is NO. I do not. When i was a kid/teenager yes.
I have had that sig pic since i created my steam account back in 04/05 can't remember exactly.

Cannabis, Alchohol yes etc are all against Muslim rules etc. I for one do not take any such thing. So i am not breaking any law's/rules. I fast because it is part of 1 of the 5 pilgrimage.
It's in my jeen to automatically to Fast then not to Fast.

just a thought, what the hell are the muslim athletes at the olympics going to do next year, surely they are gonna have to be sensible and drink something, in fact anyone out in the heat today is pretty retarded to go without a drink

Thats quite an assumption isn't it?

To call someone a Retard for not eating drinking while they are fasting is some next level................

Nothing to do with being 'picky', I was just genuinely interested to know why you would observe some rules, and not others :)

Fair enough :)

I believe that you can forgo the fast if you are travelling, or going through particular hardship.
However, I imagine the process of Ramadan and associated prayer can bring a lot of inner strength to the participants and this may help overcome the lack of food and liquid during the day. I suppose it can be compared with people having immense strength when needed (baby under a car, for example).
There are plenty of occurances when Muslim sportsman have played during Ramadan and their performance has been excellent.

Some do pick and choose. but it just don't work that way. You can't be a half Muslim, only practisng thing you think thats suffciant.

Then you get the ones - who are the opposite of muslim. If that makes sense.
