So thought it'd be a good idea to upgrade the old machine - after realising that because the corsair ram has heat sinks the size of the qe2 ive had to losely place my hard drives in the 5.25 bays..

Then i get it all up and running and realise it wont get into the bios.. Take out my adaptec 39320 card and hey presto it works !!

So im sure no one else probably runs scsi raid in their systems but does anyone know anything about adaptec /asus incompatibilitys? I really fancy getting this to work rather than forking out for some slower and stupidly expensive ssd's ??

If it does come to buying ssd's I need some like tomorrow because this build issues starting to cost an arm and a leg not to mention take ******* weeks.

Also, whilst im banging on, does anyone know why im only getting 10 or sometimes 8 of hte 12 gb i installed..? Its corsair 1600mhz stuff triple channel jobby job.

Cheers.

Not sure about the scsi issue, but the ram issue can be due to a number issues. My problem was that the cpu cooler was screwed on too tight so it bent the motherboard. After reseating the cooler the problem was fixed. Be sure to also check the cpu pins arent bent. Its a common problem with i7 boards.

Ive found out why i was only getting 8 gb, theres two of the EAT12v power thingys my corsair tx850 psu has one (splittable from 8 pin to a 6 and a 2 ), when i have the top eat12v power socket on the mobo plugged in i get 8gb, when i have the bottom most plugged in i have 12 gb. Lovely.

Still am thinking of selling the board and getting something that my adaptec card will work with - its a 64 bit card (long pci) and im thinking the cmos batter is too high and causing the card to not sit properly...

I feel like a bloody rally team mechanic tonight, have put my old asus p5k delux with its 2.4 quad core back together and am running that again...

Kinda dissapointed by the board really, a lot of things arnt that well thought out on it, may sell it and see what else i can get !

Cheers

I have the Gigabyte UD7 board and run the Adaptec 39320A-R version. No problems at all.

Cheers for that, it'd be a shame not to use the rampage 3 board as its an absolute cinch to overclock..

Whats your ud7 like to overclock? What cpu area you running>

My UD7 is my main benching board now - I still have a RE2 and a RE3, even had a UD9 but sold it on and went back to the UD7 because it had the highest BLK overclock of all the boards I benched with.

I regularly run my CPU to the very max sub-zero - those include 980X, 920/930, 950 and once a 970.

From a ram clocking point of view I found that the RE3 was able to give me a default tighter latency but with tweaking the UD7 was as good and better in Super Pi.

For Vantage multicard benching RE3 was 4 points quicker than the UD7 but 102 slower with single card. So pretty much of a muchness.

Thanks for info 1Day.. Its such a shame that i have to potentially get rid of the rampage, im 99% percent certain its where the card wont sit squarely on into the pci slot - think the 64 bit part of the card is resting slightly on the cmos battery casing - was thinking of maybe filing away, but then i always run the risk of shattering the plasting / it not working even properly seated..

Im just trying to work out the lesser of the 3 evils really.

Run a Velocirapter 300 jobby using rampage 3 board.
Find a adaptec card that will work with the rampage board
run a UD7..

Cost wise, the new boards the most expensive option.. Hmm

Also got to buy a new case also as my old school antecs position of the hard drive bays doesnt sit well with the monsterous heat sinks on the ram !

I just need to make a decision before xmas !!

You should get back a huge portion of your purchase price for the board if you sold it I suspect. But it is a nice board and I still have mine. I just have got so comfortable with the UD7.

Are there no other slots that you can use for the raid card?

Unfortunately its just the one pci slot, the rest on the rampage3 are graphics ! I dont really want to get of the raid setup, its really nice and quick - even if a bit noisey.. Going to a sata velociraptor would be a bit of a backward step & ssd are a bit out of my budget right now !

Just pulled my board out and that is the only option you have.

Have you used the on board raid option?

You can pick up the card I use for about £76 but not sure it is what you want right now.

Hmm - and you are running two of them yeah.

I have just bought some more 580's and they are still sitting in their boxes. Currently just have a single 5870 on my main board. Not benching right now - too much work to finish before Christmas.
