Rampage extreme 2 shutdown problem

ok I pressed the button for 4 seconds or more in the bios and the bios closed, screen went blank but all fans and GPU were still running.

So its still the same issue,

thanks for all your help btw!

Have you got the system set to automatically restart after BSOD? It could be that it's BSODing but so fast you can't see it and then getting stuck.

Nps, taking the above into account, could you check that the power and reset connctors/wires are connected onto the right headerpins on the motherboard as this can cause similar problems if wired incorrectly.

EDIT: If you're absolutley sure that the wires a connected correctly you may want to try a BIOS flash just to rule it out - or perhaps just a CMOS reset to start with.

Cheers for the help plec, Ive checked the wiring and its in the right place (black cable is ground yes?)

I have posted in customer care forum and see if they recommend a bios flash, as i dont want to invalidate my warranty as its running the latest bios.

This is driving me insane, i have spent nearly all weekend trying to fix this!!!

Thanks again

The case connectors for the front panel header have a small triangle/arrow to indicate the positive wire - it may be worth having a second look.

Good luck with it.

While you're waiting for a response you could try a CMOS reset. This will reset your BIOS settings to factory defaults, you will then need to go into the BIOS and load 'optimized defaults', or similar, and then save and exit. Then let the machine boot into windows and hope for the best...

You should have an OcUK profile saved within the BIOS with your overclock settings (check that you have before doing the CMOS reset) - so it shouldn't be a problem getting your clock back.

If by some minor miracle this works re-load the OcUK profile and hope that it remains the same.

EDIT: Please see my above post too - i meant to edit that post.

No worries, it's a shame we couldn't find a definitive answer.

I hope the rma goes smoothly - let me know OcUK's findings, it's an intriguing problem (granted a very annoying one for you).

Additional: One last throw of the dice - you could run memtest to check your memory's stability. You could even try the system with just one stick (rotate sticks in the first slot if necessary) just to see if by some small quirk of fate it makes a difference.

However, the upshot of the above test is, that even if you found a fault in memtest or the system shut down with one stick, you would still need to rma - so it would be a test purely for the curiosity.

Have you tried a hard CMOS reset??

Pull the battery, and close the CMOS jumper and leave it like that for 10 minutes, then put the battery back in, remobe the jumper and then see if it sorts your problem out..

Had a similar issue a while back, and doing the above fixed it for me..

Bahhh, I never seen Plec's reply above.. :(

However, when I had the similar issue, I tried just pressing the reset CMOS button on my UD5, and the problem was still present, I had to remove the battery and close the pins for 10 minutes to sort it...
