Asus Rampage Extreme Intel X48, does this board support sli?

No. Only CrossFire. However, the Rampage 2 Extreme does support both. Do you mean X48 or X58 chipset?

rampage extreme X48 is a socket 775 board and does not have nvidia sli support

the rampage 2 extreme is a high end x58 board with sli and crossfire support

i want a high quality mobo that supports sli as i have a q9550 cpu and 2x gts 250 gpu's, i dont really want to upgrade my cpu, any recomendations?

Your only options are an nvidia 780i ddr2 board, 790i which is ddr3, theese will allow you to use your q9550. Other than this your looking at an upgrade of the whole system to p55/x58 chipset which will mean new cpu mobo and ram.

which 790i do you recommend, ive seen the asus 790i ultra and the xfx version or the msi 790i diamond, which do you think is the better board?

The xfx, msi and evga 790i's will all be the same reference design, asus tend to go with theyre own design on the nforce sli boards. Tbh id try and find an xfx or evga second hand.
