Ramsay in the US...

If your worrying about the state of any kitchen that you eat from then go look around it, its your right as a consumer to look around a restaurant kitchen.

That show last night was awsome, he was so funny, that manager was a complete muppet and Ramsey transformed that place so well! It was awsome, that kitchen was a joke, i guarantee they will have health inspectors around the place every month now!

Erm no its not! Health & Safety would have a field day if restaurants allowed customers in to the kitchen!!

Sounds like they failed to fill in paper work, you get marked quite badly on paper work! when i worked in kitchens i spent more time filling in paper work than cooking*

* That maybe a slight over exaggeration but there was a lot of paper work!

Enjoyed last night episode but they are a little staged. That place was a real hole and as to the three managers, you just had to laugh.

Possibly the worst show on TV - entirely scripted, if you read the disclaimer at the end they basically admit to showing things out of order to make it seem dramatic etc.

Watched the whole series, UK version is much much better. Can't wait till it comes back on cause its always a good laugh.

I'd love to see you try!

Same as with a lot of the UK > US exports - they also stage certain scenes purely for entertainment purposes.

I wonder what the US makes of the UK version? Anyone know if it was aired out there before they made a tailored version for the US markets?

the US series had been dire, every episode the same and so obviously staged

I think Ramsey is starting to push his luck a bit far, the F word was poor too, he needs to be more selective or folks will get sick of him

I have to agree, he seems to be becoming the celebrity chef he always said he wasn't and didn't want to be. Although the passion for good food he shows is genuine along with his strive for perfectiona nd high standards.

Being fair he is still opening new restaurants and earning Michelin stars all over the world.

I don't think he will have anything to do with the editing of the program.

Yet again, another show where the UK version is miles better than the US version. As said, it's just too false and scripted for my liking.

Just watching Ramsays kitchen nightmares on C4 and I feel pretty sick!

For anyone that didn't see it:
The restaurant was full of flies, terrible food etc....He then went into the kitchen, which was infested with cockroaches, rats, flies and moldy food. Absolutely disgusting.

I dine out every so often, however seeing this makes me wonder what I'm actually eating and how clean the kitchen is. It also makes me wonder how these things are monitored by the authorities.

Steering away from the series discussions; Of the 14 kitchens i've worked in, none of them have been unhealthy or unclean. I wouldn't even lie about it, i hated being a chef :P So i wouldn't worry yourself too much.

Yea, to be honest it would be hard finding places as disguisting as last night's in england, our inspections seem a bit tougher etc. If you look at the scoresonthedoors website you will find that all those fastfood places that people love to **** off are some of the highest scorers, in my hometown most of the places have appauling hygene scores other than mcdonalds BK etc, it doesnt really suprise me because i think the resteraunts are all ****, oh the pubs aint too bad either, well the chain ones atleast. ASDA CAFE TILL I DIE.

I love the English version of Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares but the American one is dire. Not due to anything on Ramsey's part, he's still excellent, it's the damn awful 'dumbed down for US television, explain everything in simple terms' voice-over that really irks me.
This tbh.

The English series was informative. He'd go into a place, point out what's wrong, point out what needs to change, plan out a course of action and implement it. I have seen none of this aspect in the American series despite the fact that's what actually happened behind the view of the cameras. This last programme was the only one in my opinion that really showed any of this aspect, the rest has been too much of the swearing, arguing and bravado of the tough-guy owners and chefs.

All that has been portrayed is that Ramsey rolls into a place and slags it all off, upsets everyone and makes a few really minor changes and it's all ok from there. There was lots of quality information to be learned about both how to run a restaurant and business in the English series. I didn't see any of that in the American series.

Enjoyed the UK shows which seemed to focus more on the food and service, the US version seems to be more about the arguments and flashy make-overs. And not to mentioned that dodgy voice over 'Chef Ramsey...blah..blah..'

I just finished watching it on 4od, some of it did seem very aesthetic but the restaurant generally looked like it was going to ****, I've really enjoyed watching Kitchen Nightmares, a lot of the american owners seem to be quite deluded in thinking that their businesses are running well, but then why have Gordon Ramsay on the show in the first place?

The show amuses me no end, but yes the dumbed down americanism of it grates somewhat, UK version is as has been pointed out, way better.

I like both, the us version is just entertainment value whilst the uk version has entertainment + educational value that interests me.

I think the owners seem to think they are running the business well but some small changes will make things better whereas ramsey comes in saying 'YOUR ****ing ****' although there can only be so many times someone can be the worst chef he's ever met.
