Random beeps!

Hi,

I have just built myself a new rig & every now and then (always when gaming) the pc emits one loud beep. Its like a POST beep only louder. I dont think its thermal as my CPU temp never really gets above 30. I am thinking it could be a fan failure warning but they all look ok. Nothing sems to happen when it does beep, I can just carry on playing as normal but I am wondering if its an indication of something more serious. The BIOS dosent keep logs so unfortunatly I cant check them

These are the specs.

X6800 CPU (not overclocked)
8800GTX GPU
850W Enermax Galaxy
680I EVGA mobo
2gig of OCZ ram at 5-5-5-15
3 SATA HDD's

Any ideas guys??

Cheers!!

I dont think its the gpu as it never seems to go above 55 degrees. Ill have to check. Does anyone know what the normal temps are for the 8800gtx?

Just read something about "linked mode" and "unlinked mode" relating to the memory on the board. Apparently, this can cause a long beep. If there is an option in the BIOS perhaps try changing it?!

I get exactly the same happen with my laptop. Isn't a battery alarm as it occurs randomly and when its plugged in. Its a long beep no short like post beep.

Might be totally unrelated as its a crappy dell inspiron laptop ;p but just thought id throw this in ;d

I think I may have found the source of the random beeping. I was using SpeedFan to monitor my system temps & read somewhere that another temp monitor (motherboard monitor) caused random beeps in games. I thought the same might apply here so I took it off & am now using the Nvidia sys monitor. The beeping now seems to have stopped but im gonna monitor it over the next few days. Played GRAW for a few hours last night & not a peep from it!

I'll keep you informed & thanks for your help. I did actually think it might be my PSU but the status light on the back stays green so I kind of discounted it.

Dan
