Over the last couple of days I started to get a intermittent black screen when in games, does it mostly in tomb raider and dirt rally benchmarks but my gpu temps are low as I have it watercooled has anybody else had this.

what card and what PSU do you have ? and how old are they
intermittent black screen sounds to me like underpowered GPU or maybe driver issue, but am guessing you already updated the driver.

also try stress testing the gpu with furmark.

I had the same issue, I realized it was the Nvidia drivers on the latest update. Just reinstalled a older version and boom. No more black screens.

Hope this helps.

Well think I know now, I put ek waterblock and backplate on it couple of days ago and if I don't overclock it doesn't black screen and when I do it does but the thing is it used to have a ref cooler on it and my overclock of 1150/1500 was not a problem but now with overclock on it with waterblock and backplate it has intermittent black screens but vrm and core temps are fine which I find strange.

So I've come to conclusion it's started doing this since I've put ek waterblock and black on it so what do you think could be causing it or is the card just on its way out?

what EK waterblock is it? I had exactly the same problem when I first did my loop. I could not put my core clock higher than 1000MHz or it would black screen, but when they were on air they were happily doing 1100MHz on the core and never saw a black screen ever. The strange thing was, in turning off my pump with the core clock higher than 1000MHz, I never got 1 black screen. Obviously temps rose very quickly so I could only run this test at 10 seconds each time, but I must have tested like this 30 times, never saw 1 black screen. With the pump running again, doing the same test, as soon as anything 3d started, I got a blackscreen. I got another pump from OCUK and the problem went away. But there is a but. On crossfire I can run anything up to 1150MHz on the core now with no black screens, but when only using 1 card, I have to knock the core clock down to 1100MHz or I get those black screens again. It's a strange problem it really is, it's something linked with the EK blocks, the GPU's and the pump that's for sure, maybe frequency issue or something messing around with DP. I don't get any black screens over HDMI no matter what clock speed I set, it's just linked to DP I think.

For ref I use the EK Thermosphere waterblocks on both my 390's, and XSPC 5 Photon 170 Reservoir/Pump Combo with Mayhem pastel white on a BenQ 144hz Freesync screen. You can find a very detailed log of this issue here. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18694093 The OCUK members really helped me a lot, was pretty stressful.

Cheers for the info I thought I broke the card, lol.the block is the ek full cover nickel plated block with Csq d5 pump/res.i runs fine at stock but when running at 1150/1500 I get the black screens.

Aye, thank god I got to the bottom of it, I'm happy running 1100mhz on my cores, would rather have no black screens at that clock than pushing to 1150mhz and getting them. I really think its an issue with the EK blocks and the pump. Weird how it only does it at high clocks, must be a frequency thing somewhere.

I Could run 1150/1500 on the ref cooler all day long now with the block on I have to leave at stock or I get the black screens.
So Tony would you advice to change my pump as this solved it for you, I also using dp for 4K il see if it does the same on hdmi.

You could try HDMI at 1150mhz to see if it black screens, I have a funny feeling it wont. I tried a few quick benches without the pump running, but I kept a sharp eye monitoring my temps then flicked the pump on when my gpu temps got to 70c (around 10seconds of benchmark lol)...this is not advisable and I'm not telling you to do it, but that was one way I found the pump might have been the problem for me.

I fixed my black screen problems by buying a 1M DP cable.

I had the same issues, black screen for 1-2 seconds while in games or on the desktop etc, though with a 390X at 1180Mhz core.
