New build has been more or less trouble free:
MSI P45 Neo3 FR
Q9550
4Gb OCZ 8500
XP Home
I had the bios set to allow bootup from other devices and had my MP3 player plugged in, everything had been fine with the build until this and it stalled on initialising USB ports during post, followed by an overclock failed message. The next couple of times I booted into Windows it hung on the XP logo, in fact the logo was only very faint but it was there, next bootup gave me the option to "start Windows normally" etc, so I did and all was fine, Windows is stable, no issues. I went into the bios and disabled USB booting.
It has happened with both a 480Watt Tagan and a 700Watt Coolermaster so it isn't PSU related.
Now it hangs just as the Windows logo is appearing but only say every 1 in 20 bootups and when in Windows everything is 100% stable.
How can I tell what process the PC is going through during bootup because when it hangs, it's always at the same point.
Although my system is in fact overclocked I don't feel that is the issue because it has sucessfully primed for several hours.
