Hey Guys,

It's my first post (i last visited 24th sept 2007 apparently) so be kind!

I built a system about a year ago now, and I've never really been happy with it. Random BSODS and hanging all the time both just browsing the web and gaming. At the time i didn't really have a chance to sort it so i just dealt with it.

My new flatmate said that the most likely issue was my creative soundcard (soundblaster X-Fi extreme PCI version) so i removed it and reinstalled vista 32bit.

It is now much better but it still crashes when i game after around 30 minutes.

The setup is:

Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi with the latest bios (0902)
E6600 with scythe infinity
BFG 8800GTS 320mb OC2
4Gb OCZ 6400C4 Platinum
Enermax Liberty 500w
two 500gb WD SATA drives
two 120gb WD IDE drive
SATA dvd burner
3 x 120mm fans an 80mm fan
Vista 32bit

I've searched for common solutions and I've not really got anywhere, the recommend solution patches from microsoft wont install (it deems they're not necessary) memtest runs fine haven't checked the HDD but I'll do that now.

What should i try next?

I haven't tried testing the cpu for stability, I figured it wouldn't tell me much as I know it doesn't work under load. But if it'll give useful information I'll do it overnight.

Vcore 1.152V
Vram 1.8V

Both are according to CPU-Z

I've just run prime95 for about 20mins fine. MB reported a CPU temp of 54C and MB temp of about 47. Intel themal thingy gave the cores 48 and 44. I'm now installing 3dmark06 to test with that too.

Is it usual for the cores to be different temperatures? And is this a bit hot considering it is freezing and i've got a decent cooler? Should I reseat the heatsink?

Are there any flaws in the setup that I should change ATM?

Right 3dmark gave me 8589
SM2.0 4059
SM3.0 4291
CPU 1715

Presumably there are big gains to be had here by overclocking, on average how much can i expect from my E6600?

Yeah, I'm planning on running it over the weekend whilst i'm out. It just ran fine for 52mins so hopefully that's the end of most of my issues!

Wooahh :O

what cooler are you using and what case.?

47oc for a motherboard (a especially a modern one) seems a way too high, this could be the problem..

run prime for the cpu for around8-12 hours mate

and give memtest a go on startup for the ram, could be a few things tbh,

I'm using this ram, which is specified for 1.9-2.1V so i think that was causing the trouble. I ended up not going out this weekend so I played COD4 through and not a single crash, nor in farcry2.

As for case an cooler, I've got a NZXT lexa blackline case, so 120mm intake fan on the front, 120mm exit fan on the back, 80mm exhaust on the roof, 120mm side fan. 2*120mm fans on the PSU and an extra vent in the bottom of the case. The heatsink is a scythe infinity. I'm not entirely sure it is mounted properly so I'm going to get a mate to check it.
