Random FPS drops in games

Hi guys, I hope someone might be able to offer some help with an issue I have recently started having with my PC.

When gaming my FPS will suddenly tank randomly for a few seconds for no apparent reason, some times the game will actually freeze for a second or two and then picks back up again.

It seems to happen in any game if it's a graphically intensive scene or not as far as I can tell.

I have tried DDU and graphics driver reinstall, windows and drivers are up to date, virus and malware scan, tried running without overclocks. I am pulling my hair out now as it is very annoying. Maybe a OS reinstall is needed but would like to avoid that if possible.

My specs are:
MSI gaming pro carbon X370 mobo
Ryzen 1700 @ 3.8ghz with coolermaster AIO
32gb DDR4 @ 2933mhz
Gigabyte 1080ti
Windows is installed on a Samsung M.2 SSD
2 SSD and 1 HDD
EVGA 750w PSU
Windows 10

Thanks!

Thank you for your reply.
I have had Afterburner OSD running but only showing GPU statistics so I will add the CPU statistics and keep an eye on it.

Thanks again!

So I played a game with GPU and CPU usage on screen and GPU usage dropped to 0% and the game froze briefly, it didn't last long but from what I could see I dont think the CPU usage changed (hovering around 30% throughout gameplay).

So it looks like a GPU issue I guess?

Could be a ram issue. Try disabling the oc on the ram and see if the stutters still appear.

Assuming trying without oc as you said in the op only meant cpu and gpu ofc. Otherwise ignore this suggestion. :)

Thank you for your suggestion Distracted, much appreciated. Yeah when I said running without OC I set 'optimize default settings' in the bios which set the RAM to 2133mhz, I should have been clearer about that :o Still the same issue unfortunately.

Well the PC has decided that it would **** the bed completely.
It did a Windows update so I clicked the update and reboot option and after the update it stayed on a black screen so I reset it and now it won't post or anything

I tried pulling the cmos battery and running one stick of RAM but it won't post. I hope the motherboard isn't buggered. :(
