Random freezes with windows 7

yeah, it ran fine for about 7 hours after the SFC while my pc was idle (internet browsing and what not) but when I put a film on it crashed. not sure if that has anything to do with it. im going to format later, as im busy at the moment

Also you say it was stable while idle but crashed when u ran a movie. Can you try running HDD benchmarking software and see if that crashes you
Also when u crash, do u get BSOD if so what's the crash code

Random Windows freezes I put down to the OS lol, my PC is clocked at 4.2 and still barely runs iTunes without freezing once or twice

had same sort of problem years back,tryed everything to get pc run right and kept frezzing, i ended up swaping bits in me pc as i could afford them lol,went thro a new motherbords,new memorry, new cpus, new psu, new gfx,new hdds tryed loads of diferent parts in me pc and it was all the same it just frozz it cost me arm and leg i had enough parts to build about 3 pcs at time with the amout of stuff i brought trying to work out the prob lol thought it could have been somit like the parts didnt match each other but was not to wise then lol and it passed all the benchmark tests each thing did.in the end fount out problem which didnt even cross my mind at the time it was the case it was all sitting in asoon as swaped the case it all worked fine lol the power button most of been arking in some way cuzing the frezz, i lernt a valuble lesson from it tho try to work out the prob before ya just jump in lol me advice to ya would be try to strip everything to bare minum eg run one stick memory use onbord gfx if bord got it so on unplug unnessery cards and usb ports then try and do a fresh renstall with out copying over files do a complate format then try

the crashes are totally random, it crashed when it was idle thismorning and its crashed before idle. just coincidense I think.
Think Ill have to try and install windows on my external HDD and boot from that and see if i get any problems. if not, new HDD, if so, im going to sit on this forum and cry

@davyc333

you keep saying "crash" is the PC freezing randomly or actually crashing? if its crashing are you getting a BSOD? Simple power off without warning?

When I say crash I mean freeze, my bad. No BSOD, just exactly like I said in the first post. Just freezes on whatever I was doing, fan speeds stay as normal, just like it was on.

I decrypted that guys message. Basically he said it was his case? O.o

I see; well I guess the OP should remove all the IO/Power/Reset connectors into his motherboard and use the briding technique to switch it on and see if thos runs any better.. would rule out the case along with dodgy USB/Firewire ports etc
