Yeah, WTF, but I could do with some estimates...

Imagine you're an electrician. You buy a power drill for £100 and a tool box for £25. You use them for 4 months. Then you decide to sell them. How much do you get for them second hand?

How much have you used them and did you look after them? I know some places where after 4 months a drill will be wrecked but if it were my drill it would look like the box hadn't been opened.

You crazy tax people and your questions. :p

I'd say it would depend quite heavily on the wear to the items, comparatively you'd expect the toolbox to lose less in percentage terms as it's less likely to wear out through ill-usage or even just normal usage. With most secondhand goods I'd guess at between 2/3 and 3/4 of the new price as being fairly reasonable but as mentioned it will depend on the usage.

Haha, yep, it's actually a tax related question.

Cheers for the input - looks like I'm on the right track with my estimates.

I don't need to imagine that i am an electrician because i am an electrician. We earn far too much money to think about selling our second hand tools we just use them once and then throw them away.

:D

Anything from 0 to, say, £200. Well - they could originally have been bought in a very generous promotion and be worth much more than even the original purchase price :p

A drill at £100, say a Makita (you're looking at twice the price but B&Q always have them on special offer) in a special offer, would hold its value well, so you'd prob get £75.

depends if it was a microsoft power tool sold as an OEM product with the tool box, in which case you illegaly brought it and have no right to sell it.

Throw it away and buy power tool 2012 and tool box 14

so the answer is it has no value as you cannot sell it.

A lot of second hand traders will give you a third of the price new and sell it on at two thirds of the price. So to sell privately should net around £66.
