I'll start. Does anyone else always remove the splash screen from Linux distros?

It's something I've always done.

Just run with the default. Usually if there’s an issue and it halts during boot up you can see where I think. Been a long time since I had that issue with Linux/GNU OS’s though. They are much more reliable nowadays.

I must admit that the last time i saw anything useful was when trying out SpiralLinux it failed to load AppArmor profiles, it turned out that the developer disables it by default.

It did throw me for awhile.

A new version of Linux Mint and MX linux has been released.

I might have a play with MX linux later in virtual machine as it's been awhile, though i'm not the biggest fan of XFCE.

Starting on January 19, 2025 Facebook's internal policy makers decided that Linux is malware and labelled groups associated with Linux as being "cybersecurity threats". Any posts mentioning DistroWatch and multiple groups associated with Linux and Linux discussions have either been shut down or had many of their posts removed.

We've been hearing all week from readers who say they can no longer post about Linux on Facebook or share links to DistroWatch. Some people have reported their accounts have been locked or limited for posting about Linux.

The sad irony here is that Facebook runs much of its infrastructure on Linux and often posts job ads looking for Linux developers.

What the hell, that is nutz!

Definitely GRUB, boot loader is 'GNU GRUB Version 2.06-13deb12u1'

On my Surface Pro 7 I get the splash screen just fine, On my second PC I just get a black screen with a warning about WiFI drivers just before the login screen. On my main machine I just get a black screen after boot loader before login menu.

Its not a huge issue, just think its odd that the splash screen does not show as it has splash in the settings file.
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash resume=UUID=4d39469f-fb35-4edc-ba17-cf5ae6acc3ef"

I am not sure what the UUID =4d39469f-fb35-4edc-ba17-cf5ae6acc3ef is, I would guess it has something to do with ZFS.

Is it possible that the GRUB boot menu passes the process of booting to systemd-boot? I don't know much about systemd but I have come across it being mentioned many times.

Do you have hibernation on?

If you do...

ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid

...it will show you the UUID of all of your disk partitions. That UUID will likely point to your swap partition and GRUB is set to resume from a hibernation image in there.

Thank you!
I did try hibernation some time ago, but it didn't work out due to the insane boot times.
The UUID is my swap partition as you suggested .

Checks calendar....nope not 1st April

Is there an actual Meta/Facebook source for this? My Google-Fu just returns references to DistroWatch.

Good call, i couldn't find anything either so i assume distrowatch must be over-reacting to something that is personal to them.

@Ice Tea - tell me you boot into a console and not a desktop manager please

You have to startx and fluxbox from the CLI like a real man

By the linux community i stopped being a man when i decided to stick with Ubuntu. :)

By a small, but vocally aggressive minority on modern cesspits of social media/forums maybe - Ubuntu is too popular that they need to deride people people who use something out of the box. Canonical as a company has its issues for sure though.

I say this as someone who is a i3wm Debian user who hates the ideas of GUIs and prefers to use a TUI wherever I can, but Ubuntu is absolutely fine for 99% of people.

*stopped being a man when you like Iced Tea :D

The cool kids don't use startX anymore, they're all on Wayland man! (still an Xorg user here, but I am notoriously uncool and I use OpenBSD a lot too which is still on a modified Xorg)

Nobody wants a WM written in such a bad language either :D C or go home /s

It is just DistroWatch over exaggerating.

Can’t say I’ve ever considered installing one.

You have never seen a graphical start screen that shows the distro logo?

Of course I’ve seen one. I just haven’t ran a distro that uses one for years.
