I'll start. Does anyone else always remove the splash screen from Linux distros?

It's something I've always done.

I must admit that the last time i saw anything useful was when trying out SpiralLinux it failed to load AppArmor profiles, it turned out that the developer disables it by default.

It did throw me for awhile.

A new version of Linux Mint and MX linux has been released.

I might have a play with MX linux later in virtual machine as it's been awhile, though i'm not the biggest fan of XFCE.

Starting on January 19, 2025 Facebook's internal policy makers decided that Linux is malware and labelled groups associated with Linux as being "cybersecurity threats". Any posts mentioning DistroWatch and multiple groups associated with Linux and Linux discussions have either been shut down or had many of their posts removed.

We've been hearing all week from readers who say they can no longer post about Linux on Facebook or share links to DistroWatch. Some people have reported their accounts have been locked or limited for posting about Linux.

The sad irony here is that Facebook runs much of its infrastructure on Linux and often posts job ads looking for Linux developers.

What the hell, that is nutz!

Checks calendar....nope not 1st April

Is there an actual Meta/Facebook source for this? My Google-Fu just returns references to DistroWatch.

Good call, i couldn't find anything either so i assume distrowatch must be over-reacting to something that is personal to them.

@Ice Tea - tell me you boot into a console and not a desktop manager please

You have to startx and fluxbox from the CLI like a real man

By the linux community i stopped being a man when i decided to stick with Ubuntu. :)

My Google-Fu just returns references to DistroWatch.

It is just DistroWatch over exaggerating.

Can’t say I’ve ever considered installing one.

You have never seen a graphical start screen that shows the distro logo?

Built from the ground up using Qt and coded in C++, Orbitiny Desktop is a new, 100% portable, innovative and traditional but modern looking desktop environment for Linux. Innovative because it has features not seen in any other desktop environment before while keeping traditional aspects of computing alive (desktop icons, menus etc).

First i've heard of Orbitiny Desktop, looks very archaic compared to plasma.

What did you think of Spiral? I'm a fan, I've rebuilt my own custom spins. It used Debian Live build so not hard

I had a play with an early release that was buggy so ended up back on LMDE, i was going to retry it a few months back but noticed that the last release was back in 2023 so i left it.

To which there was a bit of a surprising response:

"Removing RPM applications is my long term goal, but I'm not sure how quickly we'll be able to get there."

That response was from Michael Catanzaro, a Red Hat engineer on their desktop team, a member of the Fedora Workstation Working Group, and a member of the GNOME Release Team.

WOW!, Gnome Software thinking of going Flatpak only.

I see a lot of reviewers have started members only vids like the example above. :(

Going to install Linux on my gaming laptop I think. Last time I had Linux for gaming it all worked pretty well and I just prefer it compared to Windows 11. I don't use Microsoft Office anymore which was probably the one thing keeping me on Windows.

I wish they could sort out Call of Duty so it will play on linux.
