Random lock ups - hard drive? NVMe

Hi guys,

My gaming rig has been playing up for a while now, very randomly though, so difficult to pinpoint. I'm working my way through my components trying to get to the bottom of a bit of system instability and its just dawned on me that everything started going awry when I upgraded my nvme from 1 to 2tb...

Yesterday, and my rig is stock and very well cooled, I had a browser window running and Teamviewer session going - that was it. Then things started to hang... I couldn't even shutdown in the end, had to force it.

The upgrade was only a couple of months back so still under warranty - is there anyway of accurately testing nvme's for errors?

Thanks!

SMART often doesn't pick up that kind of thing, you need to download the manufacturer's diagnostics tools really, but even then it doesn't always work. Controller errors and bad blocks can be reported in the event viewer (a tool like crystaldiskinfo may report the number of instances, too). I think I mentioned this stuff in your other thread though.

It could be a coincidence, but does sound like it might be the SSD. You could try re-seating it, you never know. Is it the chipset or the CPU slot that you're potentially having the issue with?
Thanks man! I've got the WD Dashboard app but there are usually specific support apps aren't there? I'll have a look.

The chipset or CPU slot? For the nvme? It's in the primary slot, closest to the CPU.

I was also thinking about drive cooling, although to be fair, my issues started before the recent heatwave. My mobo has a nicely shiny shield for the nvme's but I'm not sure sure about their cooling potential...
