Hey guys,

Lately I moved my hardware into a new Antec 900 case, all was fine for a few days ... but over the last 2-3days, I get the odd "turn off" randomly... no BSOD, no overheating, voltages seem rock stable, can happen in windows or during games so even at idle... what can be the cause for these?

I can power up the pc immediately after it turns itself off iv read some issues with other people not being able to unless they take the power cord out, so its not the same issue

Thanks

Had the same thing happen to me after changed my cpu, took out my 4000 and put in a x2 3800 planning to overclock it but then the random poweroffs began but seem to have fixed it by redoing the thermal paste and reseating my fan, psu was next thing on my list to look at.

hmm, ok well did you notice insanely high temps on your CPU? , mines running 28 idle and 35-38 under full load, was it just due to a failsafe, or just random weird reason :S

Are you using a dfi board by any chance?

If so then some versions of coretemp had issues with causing hard shut downs...just a long shot.

i do use coretemp, have done for a while, but im on a MSI Neo2 platinum, and had no issues with coretemp before moving case

sorry, i forgot to mention that recently since I have moved case I hear a strange "click" type sound (not really a click i cant really describe it) from one of my hard drives (i think), is there a chance this is related?

didnt notice anything strange at all, no high cpu temps just totally random power offs and same as you was able to just switch back on didnt need to take out power cable took off the arctic freezer pro and put on a zalman 9700 temps around same as yours, am running a msi neo 4 platinum board

ok m8, nice one il try it later when I have time

Taking into account the fact that this problem has only started to occur since you installed into the new case, there is a reasonable chance that it's down to a short circuit on the mobo. Try taking the components out of the case and build the PC on a desktop (i.e. not in a case, but on something non-conductive which won't damage the mobo) and see if the problem persists.

i had thought about that, but it rarely happens leading me to believe its not going to be that, it will happen probably once or twice a day, is there still a chance it could be this?
