Random problem with my pc

Every now and then over the last week it sounds like my PSU clicking like when it would be switching off, the computer freezes for a second or so and then runs normal again.
When this occurs the sound mixer gigabyte screen appears asking what was just plugged in?? Any ideas what is going on :confused:

Pc is seriously messing around now, it seems to struggle to multi task, loads of pausing in between clicking the mouse to launch internet, open another prog ect.. and noticed while burning a dvd the buffer is all over the place.
I haven't installed anything or changed any hardware so haven't a clue why this is happening, last thing installed was the Microsoft genuine update a couple of days ago... and before anyone asks mine is genuine :-)

dnt think its the psu
cud be hard drive clicking head coming loose back up your stuff first tbh just in case

open the case and a good listen for where the sound is coming from
