I have an old xspc bay res, and now knowing anything about electrics, I was wondering if it's possible to lower the power to it so it pumps less (can i use a fan controller?)

Basically I am trying to use the pump for a waterfall for my H.gigas's enclosure (swimming tarantula).

ta :)

Whats your motherboard? For example, Asus have the Q-Fan control in the BIOS and some even have a specific waterpump header... But yes you can probably control it via some of the fan controller software or a hub, you might not be able to use full PWM control but reducing the voltage should have the same effect.

It's not on a motherboard :P its for a waterfall in a tarantula tank (see first post)

My bad :)

In which case just use a standard voltage stepper, you would need to do that anyway to run it off mains as its 12v I would imagine. Not knowing anything about electronics I'd suggest you get something designed for the purpose instead...

In theory you could whack a resistor on the line to drop down from 12V to 7V or 5V like you do with fans. In practice I don't know if the pump would actually start up if you reduced the power like that.
